Class: The Memoir Project (Afternoon Session) Week 7
Join this 8 week course to create your personal memoir of Nantucket and see it published in a book. The Nantucket Atheneum brings GrubStreet's acclaimed Memoir Project back. First offered in 2010, the Memoir Project: Nantucket culminated in the publication of Little Gray Island: Life Stories from Nantucket, a best-selling book of memoirs from 24 long-time island residents. Participants do not need to have writing experience. Instructor Michelle Seaton will guide writers as they capture their stories of life on Nantucket and help turn them into polished narratives. The course is available to anyone 65 years or older who has a substantial history with the Island. At the end of the course, the Atheneum will publish a bound collection of the finished memoirs. Admission: $85, which includes a free copy of the book. Please sign up for either a morning session or an afternoon session. The course will be open on a first come-first served basis to Nantucket natives and long time Nantucket residents, including long time summer residents. Participants must be 65 years or older, fluent in English, and physically able get to the classes and to write and/or type. Register online , email or by call 508-228-1110 ext. 118. In the Heart of the Sea Walking Tour
Explore the world of the Essex and its Nantucket crew, focusing on the survivors and their lives on the island in later years. Visit locations related to the crew and learn about the vital role that whaling played in the economy and social structure of 19th century Nantucket. Tour departs from The Whaling Museum Lobby, Rain or Shine, 13 Broad Street. No reservations - first come first served!

To help you stay organized for school, we'll make a colorful erasable calendar from recycled materials. No experience necessary. All tools and materials will be supplied. Free for teens ages 12-18. Registration required. Held at The Nantucket Atheneum Gallery, 1 India Street
