Just a few blocks from the heart of downtown Nantucket is Lily Pond Park, a Nantucket Land Bank property. There is parking for 4 or 5 vehicles at the main entrance at 17 North Liberty Street. Another entrance to Lily Pond Park can be found at 36 Lily Street. At each entrance is a lawn and sitting area for picnics and birdwatching. Most of this protected area is a wetland – a century ago, this area was actually a pond, with boats and a fulling mill. There is a network of boardwalks that enables visitors to walk through the wetland without getting wet or impacting the fragile ecosystem. This property plays an important role in the island’s local water cycle and is a habitat for many plants and animals.
