Maria Mitchell Association

The Maria Mitchell Association is a private nonprofit organization on Nantucket dedicated to education, research, and preservation in astronomy, natural sciences, and history. Founded in 1902 to preserve the legacy of Maria Mitchell, the Association operates two observatories, a natural science museum, an aquarium, a research center, and the historic birthplace of Maria Mitchell. Programs, events, and hands on learning opportunities are offered throughout the year for all ages.

Alan S.W. Reed creates Nantucket lightship and friendship baskets from his Nantucket workshop. The studio features new, vintage, and antique Nantucket baskets, with baskets woven and assembled on island using handcrafted components and traditional techniques.
