This two-day workshop will focus on painting a still life with a personal narrative in mind. By this I mean ?what do YOU like about this still life in front of you? What do YOU want your painting to ?feel? like when it?s done?? A variety of techniques will be demonstrated that will help you get started, such as blocking-in a value study, removing paint to show where highlights are going to be painted, and color mixing that reflects the darks, lights, warm and cool colors in your composition. Participants will create at least two paintings of the same still life over two days, allowing us to keep fresh and not overwork any one canvas. Flowers will be provided for our set-ups but please bring a couple of interesting and/or meaningful objects you may want to include in your paintings- jewelry, vases, scarves, bowls, tea cups, etc. Participants may use acrylic or oil paint. Come prepared to experiment, play and try new techniques!
