Jim MercerJames Davis Mercer

James Davis Mercer, 62, of Palm Coast, Florida, formerly of Nantucket, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.

Jim loved his family more than anything, although fishing was a close second and music a close third. He could fix anything; bicycles, cars, airplanes, boats, computers, phones, or toys. He would immediately bring perspective to almost any situation by approaching it logically which would usually calm whatever drama was happening... at least for the moment; Jim existed in the moment.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ginnie, and his five children: Rebecca, and his granddaughter, Kelley, of Wasilla Alaska; Shawn, of Mammoth Lakes, California; Rachel, of Daytona Beach, Florida; Allison of Tampa and Palm Coast, Florida; and Emily of Orlando, Florida.

Jim and Ginnie's hearts were connected for 46 years, and their love and commitment to each other was hermetic through the best of times and the worst of times and will endure eternally. The love, discipline, opportunity, advice, assistance, experiences, accountability, commitment, and example he showered on his children during their lives (in his own unique way) are why these children reflect his kind character and principled values as adults.

He is also survived by his brother Richard (Sharon), his sister Karen (Christopher), his sister Lesley (Tony), his uncle, Robert Mercer and his aunt, Mae Mercer, his nieces Jennifer, Alysa, Lauren, and Katie and nephew Rickie, and many cousins, extended family, and loyal friends and colleagues, too many to list by name. He joins his parents, Muriel Mercer and Richard Mercer of Nantucket, and all souls who predeceased him.

Jim was loved by all, and his presence in our lives has been an honor and a privilege. His absence will be painful and perpetual. At his instruction, no funeral services are planned. Donations can be made in Jim's memory to Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164 or the American Cancer Society.
