Any time of year, Nantucket Island is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic vacation with your sweetheart, whether you plan a short weekend escape or a memorable anniversary trip.
Couples will adore the elegant romance of The Wauwinet. Tucked away near the northern tip of Nantucket, surrounded by the ocean and a wildlife reserve, there’s plenty of privacy. If you prefer to be in the heart of Nantucket, then consider staying at The Veranda House or at Union Street Inn, luxurious boutique hotels with modern amenities, or at The Cliffside Beach Club, with it’s own private beach, pool, and private bar/café.
After a relaxed morning with coffee and breakfast at your inn, you can head to the beach or explore the island. Depending on the time of year, some of our more secluded beaches include Great Point and Coatue (both easily accessible from The Wauwinet by 4wd with appropriate stickers), Sconset Beach, Steps Beach, and Ladies Beach. You can see an overview of beaches here.
At just about any time of year, walk along the sand for 5 minutes to the left or right of any of the island’s beaches and you’ll find a quiet spot. The best place to watch the sunrise is Sconset Beach, with its soft white sand and subtle solitude, this sprawling shore is a recipe for romance.
For lunch in-season dine at the outdoor Summer House Beachside Bistro in ‘Sconset or in town on the patios of Le Languedoc or Dune. For mid-afternoon lite bites go to the glamorous Fifty-Six Union where Apres la Plage is served in their lush garden in season daily from 2 p.m. From October through the off-season, you can enjoy a full lunch at Fifty-Six Union or at LoLa 41.
Afternoon and evening are the times to stroll together through Nantucket Town. Visit the Scrimshaw Room in the Nantucket Whaling Museum to see the beautiful pieces carved and etched by sailors pining for their loves. If quiet, contemplative time is your castle in the sky, you’ll appreciate the recently restored Greater Light Garden on Howard Street. There are many shops and art galleries to visit where you can pick up a memento or two of your island visit.
Looking to give your lady something divine that shines? When it comes to fine jewelry establishments, Nantucket presents some real gems. In the heart of town you’ll find Pageo, Trianon/Seaman Schepp's, Jeweler’s Gallery, and Victoria Greenhood. And how about an exceptional watch for your exceptional gentleman? Tucked right along Straight Wharf, you’ll find Jewel of the Isle, which offers a premium Rolex selection for both men and women.
A romantic way to end the day is with a Sunset Sail aboard The Endeavor, which offers sailing excursions from May through October.
When it comes to dinner, a romantic retreat begs for only the most intimate of dining experiences. For a fine dining treat, you’ll adore Galley Beach, where both the cuisine and the view are unparalleled. At Topper’s within The Wauwinet you can dine in civilized tranquility, enjoying an award-winning international wine list and savoring the innovative cuisine of Chef Kyle Zachary. If your idea of a romantic dinner is sharing a lobster picnic on the beach, call Glidden’s Island Seafood to arrange for a Lobster Clambake to go.
The best place to watch the sunrise is Sconset Beach. For watching the sun set over the ocean, nothing beats Madaket Beach.
